Song for a whale

Song for a whale

Storyboard Text

  • Hi I'm Iris. I'm deaf. I speak sign language. I have a brother, Tristian. He knows sign language too. My mom does too, but my dad is still learning. My mom is very good because she grew up with it. My grandpa died and me and my grandma really miss him.
  • This is Mr. Charles he helps me communicate in school. We have been learning about a whale who sings differently then other whales. His name is blue-55.
  • Blue 55 Is a whale
  • I love to fix radios and like to learn about 55. Anyways, I did some research and made him a song out of instruments at school playing at 55 hertz. 55 hertz is what his song sounds like while other whales are around 30 hertz. I sent the song I made to the sanctuary that is trying to tag him. I got invited to go but my parents didn't want to go on such a short notice because its all the way in Alaska.
  • I was mad at my parents and decided that I had to go to meet the whale. I had to give up one of my radios to go.
  • My grandma decided that i couldn't go alone and that she would come with me. Before grandpa died, she said, they had planned a cruise to alaska and that we could go on a cruise and that's what we did. On the cruise I met this wonderful friend. Her name is Bennie and her mom owns the cruise. It took forever to get there because 55 swam to a different sanctuary than where we were going.
  • Once I was finally there I jumped in and realized that Tristan was right, I was doing this for myself and not for the whale. Anyways I saw blue 55 and was swimming with him. He was so big but also super gentle. It was the best day of my life until...
  • That's when I saw my parents coming over. I knew for sure they would be mad but they weren't. They said that they would of course give me a punishment but not at the moment. That's when Andi came too. She works at the sanctuary and she loved my song. She showed me around and got me nice dry clothes. When I got home, everything was back to normal. And I even convinced my mom to let be go to the deaf school to try it out.
