It's like a typical normal school day until the Sudanese Government(rebels) started shooting and dropping bombs. Everyone is trying to run away for safety. This is external conflict because it's a person giving pain and discomfort to innocent people.
After finishing most of the journey of the desert, they stumble across men with guns from their rival tribe Nuer tribe. This is external conflict because Uncle got shot by men which is happening externally. Uncle had no problems with the men but the men took no chances and just killed Uncle
Another normal day for Nya is interrupted when strangers show up to her camp and state that there's water at a particular spot. Nya get's confused and puzzled that there's water there. This is internal conflict because Nya thought she knew this place like the back of her head but she learns that there is water there.
