The Children of the town collect stones from the town square and then pile them in a corner.
Mr. Summers brings out the black box and announces the beginning of the drawing. The slips of paper are drawn and each family reveals if they got the slip with the black dot.
The Hutchinsons announce that they are the family that received the black dot. The family slowly makes their way up onto the stage. The second part of the lottery is about to begin. Each person in the family chooses a slip of paper. Tessie Hutchinson pulls the black dot paper.
The towns people are relieved about who was chosen because it wasn't them. The townspeople begin to collect stones to throw at Tessie. Mrs. Delacroix picks up a stone so big she has to use both hands to carry it.
"All right, folks. Let's finish quickly."
The towns people pick up stones and start throwing them. They don't remember the original traditions but they remember to throw the stones.
The water kisses the shore. Always leaving coming back.
