Charles V was born to Philip I of Castile and Joanna of Castile on February 24, 1500.
Charles V was elected the Holy Roman Emperor at the age of 19 in 1519.
Charles V ruled over the Netherlands, Spain, and the Hapsburgs.
Protestant started spreading. He defeated the Schmalkadic League in 1546-1547. Which led him to create a interim solution which gave certain allowances to the other religions. The rest of the religious groups resented the interim he gave. They formed an alliance which led Charles V to retreat to the Netherlands.
Charles V gave up the throne to his brother Ferdinand I and his son Phillip II due to his ill health.
