  • Shortly after the French and Indian War...
  • Let's unfairly tax the Americans to pay off our dept!
  • We need money to dig ourselves out of dept now!
  • After the British started to tax the Americans, resistance shortly followed.
  • This is unfair!
  • Shut Up! You have no choice!
  • The Quartering Act of 1765 required the colonies to house the British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies.
  • The Quartering Act, 1765
  • Boston Tea Party, 1773.
  • Don't tax our tea!
  • The Tea Act placed a heavy tax on all Tea. This was the last straw for the Colonists! they threw 92,000 pounds of tea into the Boston harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts,  1774.
  • Yes! And I am tired of being harassed by soldiers!
  • These acts closed all trade other than food and firewood to the Boston Harbor until the people who led the Boston Tea Party came forward. Town meetings were banned as well. British soldiers were posted outside of Massachusetts at all times.
  • This is intolerable! We need trade!
  • The Boston Massacre, 1774.
  • British soldiers fired into an unruly mob of colonists. Five are killed. It is a controversy over whether this was a massacre or self-defense.
  • Americans! Not to be controlled by the British! Now! Yeah!
  • These events and acts showed that the British needed out now. America decided to fight back.
  • Who are we? What do we want? When do we want it?  Start the revolution!
