- After the guard's hunch was proven correct, the group of soldiers dragged Brown and some of the remaining men back to a military outpost where they were arrested
- Traitor to this nation. If I had it my way he'd be walking to the base
- Do not stoop to his level. He will be in worse shape in the near future
- After a court ruling, he was determined guilty. He was considered a traitor to his nation by some and a fallen friend to abolititonists. He was put to death by hanging.

- This is not only a loss of a member, but a hit on our cause
- The North and the South looked at this in different ways. This helped divide the fire eaters in the south and the radical abolitionists even further
