Storyboard Text

  • At the beginning of the poem  the highwayman is on his way to the inn-door.
  • "His rapier hilt a twinkle, under the jeweled sky."
  • Tim hears what the highwayman is saying and gets angry because he likes Bess too.
  • "His hair like moldy hay."
  • The highwayman left to go and steal gold and he said he would return back to Bess.
  • "As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast."
  • It is describing the sky like it was sparkling like a jewel.
  • The red coats found out that the highwayman was going to come back for Bess.
  • "When the road was a gypsy's ribbon."
  • It is describing his hair like hay.
  • Bess gets tied up by the redcoats and she killed herself to warn the highwayman that they were waiting for him to come back so they could kill him.
  • It is describing the perfume like a waterfall.
  • At the end of the poem the highwayman dies and Bess and him are together as ghost
  • "Down like a dog on the highway."
  • It is describing the road as a ribbon.
  • It suggests that Bess shot herself.
  • "Her musket shattered the moonlight."
  • It suggests that the highwayman was down like a dog and he was dead.
