European kingdoms believed there was a limited amount of gold and silver in the world. They engaged in Mercantilism, meaning they would gather as much gold and silver possible to make sure their kingdom was wealthier than the neighboring kingdoms.

One of the first countries to be colonized was South America. The area was split between Spain, Portugal, and some French.

The majority of South American natives died from disease, battles, and mistreatment while being slaves. It did not stop the Europeans, they brought over African slaves.
Some flourish while others perish.....
The Middle Passage was the middle section of the trade route. Thousands of slaves were carried on cargo ships from Africa to the Americas. About 10-20% of slaves lost their lives while traveling on the ships. Mainly to sickness, suicide, and murder by the captain or crew members.

The Triangular Trade was trade route between 3 ports. It involved 3 countries; Americas, Europe, and Africa. The goods were raw materials, manufactured goods, and slaves.
The colonization of countries brought wealth to many people. Some may say the economy was booming, unfortunately it was at the expense of millions of African lives.
