The fight continued on much longer than any normal fight, much longer than expected. Mr.Hughes, a professor who tried to help Covey in the fight, even though it didn’t work. Douglass had kicked Hughes as well and before they knew it, both Hughes and Covey were on the ground. After so long, the fight very slowly came to an end and they started to wear out. Sooner or later, the fight had come to an end. From that moment forward, Douglass was never touched by Covey. As well as Douglass never thought of himself as a slave ever again.
Frederick Douglass is slave on a plantation in Baltimore, Maryland. His slaveholder is named Mr. Covey. He was a man who would constantly beat you if you did one little thing wrong. Douglass eventually grew smart enough to realize that this was not the way humans should be treated. He had put up with the conditions he was in for long enough. The conditions consist of working in the field all day and all night, getting barely any sleep, just enough food and water. Not to mention, no beds. They were given a scarce amount of clothes that would wear out very quickly. One day, Douglass decided he would do something about the situation. He would no longer put up with this life, for him and all the other slaves around him.
Douglass tried to prove his point by leaving the plantation. Therefore, he ran away into the woods. This was all to show that the conditions he was living under, were not fair. Not long later, Douglass had come back to the plantation after leaving. When he came back, Covey was being nicer than usual. Until one day he pulled out the whip. He had tried to hurt Douglass but Douglass fought back in time. In this fight, there was punching and kicking. Blood everywhere, fighting for 2 hours straight. Still determined to get his point across.
