The colonists had the advantage of having an experienced commanding general,George Washington. Washington was considered an advantage because he knew how to command an army as well as having the knowledge of how the British would command their army.
UNTRAINED & UNORGANIZED
The American colonists strength was their patriotism because they were motivated to continue fighting. The Americans knew that if they lost the war, they would have to go back under the unfair British rule.
Another strength the American Colonists had was the alliance with France. This alliance allowed American colonists to have more troops,loans,and naval support. With this alliance, the colonists had another commander for the army as well, Marquis de Lafayette.

A disadvantage the american colonists had was the fact that were very unorganized and untrained. This was considered a disadvantage due to the fact that they were going against the most organized army ever.
The weak central government was a disadvantage because the article of confederation act. This act did not allow the central government to tax the colonists in order pay for the war. There was no strong government official.
The shortages was another disadvantage because the colonists did not have a sufficient number for supplies. The colonists were short on food,clothing and ammunition. This allowed many soldiers to die from starvation and illness.
