English Civil War
A few honest men are better than numbers
James was already the king of Scotland and became the king of England. He had some struggles with the Parliament over money and he offended the Puritan members of the Parliament.
Charles folk did not like him as much he may have thought and his popularity decreased every year. During his period as a king he made many bad decision. He offended Puritans and dissolved the Parliament and did not wanna call it back into session which he later on had to do anyways. He wanted both of his kingdoms to share the same religion but the Scots refused and assembled an army to threaten England.
An angry mob of Londoners raged outside Charles palace so he had to escape to the north of England where he raised an army. The ones that fought for Charles were called Royalists or Cavalier and the opposite force that fought against them were called Puritans, supporters of the Parliament. The Puritans selected Oliver Cromwell as their leader who then won the war.
