Poserpina, the young maiden of spring, was picking flowers with her mother, Ceres. But once she saw the pedils of the beautiful narcissus flower she was strained away from her mother.
Just as Poserpina picked the beautiful flower, the earth began to shake. Suddenly the ground cracked open, splitting the floor right in half, then from the dark depths out sprung hedes, god of the underworld. standing up in his chariot with black horses.
Hedes drove his stallions toward Poserpina. The maiden screamed for help but she was to far for her mother, Ceres to save her. Hedes grabbed Poserpina and drove his chariot back down into the earth. And the crack closed back up. Her mother rushed into the forest but it was too late, her5 dauter disapered. Poserpina did not eat nor sleep or drink for 9 days while in the underworld.
