Eder! It´s a pleasure to see you
Pleasure is all our, sit down please
Thank you soo much
Tell me Virginia, where are you from?
I am From New Jersey. I was born on Wetsfield in 1909
Tell me about your studies
Ok, I have studied three carees
The first career which I studied was arts and after zoology
After leaving college I had to work
I was working as an animal keeper when I started to study medicine at Columbia's college of surgeons
In the college I always tried to get the best notes
Now, I remember that while I was graduating, I won a residency place in surgery at the Columbia´s Hospital
The first time I went into surgery I was daydreaming.
But one day while I was studying my second year of surgery, the Dr. Alan Whipple convinced me to change my specialty.
"There are many surgeons but not many anesthesiologist"
And that's how I became an anesthesiologist.
And at what point did you decide to create the "Apgar valuation"?
Well, I realized that the use of anesthesia during labor had effects on the health status of the newborn.
One day while I was attending a delivery, there was a newborn who had trouble reacting to stimulies and the health staff was unable to locate what was wrong.
I had a suspicion that the use of anesthesia had something to do with it. So I started studying from many books
And one day just I was looking for that baby's file, another newborn started with the same problems.
That gave me the opportunity to define the conditions that are evaluated at birth: heart rate, breathing, movement, irritability, and color one minute after birth.
Now thanks to my evaluation there is a better control of the state of health of newborns and because it is the most used system in the world
