Treaty of Paris
General John Burgoyne planned to move his army south from Canada into Albany, New York using the forests to get there. General Howe headed to Philadelphia and didn't back Burgoyne. Washington chose to fight Burgoyne using Native American style fighting tactics, which were coined by the British as being "unfair". Burgoyne surrendered October 17, 1777. Turning point in the war because the French came to help us.
French trap Cornwallis by sea. Washington traps Cornwallis by land. Cornwallis surrenders October 19, 1781 (he doesn't show up to surrender though and has someone else do it for him because he is embarrassed).
Great Britain agreed to recognize America as an independent nation. Britain gave up its claim to all lands between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi River, from Canada south to Florida. United States agreed to return all rights and property taken from the Loyalists during the war.
