  • The United States Declaration of Independence is the statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776.
  • Battle of Yorktown
  • Rough winter for the soldiers in the colonial army. Little food, no payment from the Continental Congress, no clothing , no blankets. was meant to be a celebration time ,but there was only pain. Trained at this time by the Prussians (Baron von Steuben) and the french (Lafayette)
  • Treaty of Paris
  • General John Burgoyne planned to move his army south from Canada into Albany, New York using the forests to get there. General Howe headed to Philadelphia and didn't back Burgoyne. Washington chose to fight Burgoyne using Native American style fighting tactics, which were coined by the British as being "unfair".  Burgoyne surrendered October 17, 1777. Turning point in the war because the French came to help us. 
  • The End
  • French trap Cornwallis by sea. Washington traps Cornwallis by land. Cornwallis surrenders October 19, 1781 (he doesn't show up to surrender though and has someone else do it for him because he is embarrassed). 
  • Great Britain agreed to recognize America as an independent nation. Britain gave up its claim to all lands between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi River, from Canada south to Florida. United States agreed to return all rights and property taken from the Loyalists during the war.
