Storyboard Text

  • When the northern hemisphere is pointed towards the sun this causes summer.  When it is summer in the northern hemisphere it is winter in the southern hemisphere.
  • In winter the northern hemisphere is pointed away from the sun, which means that it is summer in the southern hemisphere.
  • During the spring and fall equinox there is an equal amount of daylight and night and the sun is directed at the equator.
  • The Earth is closest to the sun in January and farthest in July. However, son, the Earth's distance from the sun does not affect the seasons.
  • Temperature is affected by the sunlight we receive. The Earth receives direct sunlight in the summer, which is why it can get very hot, and indirect sunlight in the winter which makes it cold.
  • Thanks, Dad! I understand how the seasons work now!
