  • 1492-Christopher Columbus-an Italian explorer for Spain, landed in the America's in 1492. He was looking for a faster safer route to Asia
  • 1519-Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. First European to observe the Texas coast. He maped the coast of Texas.
  • 1519- Aztecs viewed cortes and his men as gods. The Aztecs possessed wealth in gold and silver. This was sent back to Spain and made Spain very rich.
  • 1528-Cabeza de Vaca shipwrecked in Galveston Island form a hurricane. The karankawas gave them food and shelter. Many spaniards died of harsh weathers.  He traveled across Texas tribe to tribe to make friendly with Indian tribes.
  • 1540-Cornado and more than 1000 men went in search of the city of gold.Never found it but found other things on the way. The spanish ignored texas for almost 100 years.
  • 1648-La Salle arrived not in Missisipi river but Matagorad bay.Only 45 people escaped out of 400 people.One of La Salle's men killed him on their way back to Canada and 7 people got to Canada out of 45 people.
