Nitrogen cycle

Storyboard Text

  • Nitrogen Cycle
  • Fixation
  • Nitrogen
  • Nitrification
  • The cycle starts with nitrogen in the atmosphere, atmospheric nitrogen.
  • Assimilation
  • During nitrogen fixation, N2 is converted to ammonia by nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
  • Ammonification
  • During nitrification, ammonia is converted to nitrite by bacteria and then to nitrate so that the energy can be obtained.
  • Denitrification
  • Plants absorb the nitrogen through their roots from the soil in assimilation.
  • After plants or animals die, decomposers convert the nitrogen back into ammonia through ammonification.
  • This is a loss of nitrogen as a result of when nitrate is converted into gaseous forms of nitrogen.
