Beowulf, born and raised in Denmark, lives out his life. At this point, he is not known as the important hero that he is later on known for. Rather, he is just an ordinary man that is related to Higlac.
Meeting the Mentor
Beowulf hears of Grendel's actions on Herot, and decides to set sail to Herot instantly, in order to go help the people.
Crossing the Threshold
Beowulf does not refuse the call to go fight Grendel as he is a great hero.
Tests, Allies, and Enemies
Beowulf meets his the king, Hrothgar, who tells him about the entire situation, telling him all of Grendel's horrible actions.
Beowulf accepts Hrothgar's request to kill Grendel. This sets the start of his journey, one that will have many interesting events, and create the heroic perspective that many people see.
Beowulf fights Grendel, the monster who was terrorizing the people and the king. After a battle with his warriors, he was able to take the arm off of Grendel, ending the actions of Grendel.
