  • The narrator introduces himself and tries to convince the reader he's not insane, even though he is. He claims that the "disease" had not made him mad, but only made his senses more sharpened instead of dulled.
  • Rising Action
  • (Totally an amazing bed)
  • A man's eye haunts the narrator, making his "blood run cold by so many degrees". He never had a problem with the man, it was just his eye that made him crazy.
  • Rising Action
  • The narrator decides to kill the man, to "get rid of the eye forever". Every night, he snuck into the man's room while he was sleeping and watched him while he slept.
  • Climax
  • Okay, I killed him! I did it!
  • Okay, I killed him! I did it!
  • As the man wakes up one night, the narrator finally kills the man. Afterwards, he dismembers the body and hides it under the floorboards for no one to see.
  • The police arrive to the house because they heard a scream coming from the house. The narrator soon starts to hear a heartbeat, and it's only him that seems to hear it. It gets louder and louder driving him more mad.
  • The narrator finally cracks from the heartbeat bugging him so much. He confesses to killing the man and telling him where the body parts were.
