  • The French and British were fighting over the Ohio River Valley
  • I want it!!
  • Ha! Now we have a fort!
  • To discourage the British, the French built fort Duquesne. Virgina governor Robert Dinwiddie sent troops led by George Washington to take over in 1754.
  • Get them!
  • Washington defeated a small French Fort, but was then defeated when the French counter-attacked.
  • Yay, we got them!
  • Oh No!
  • This land is for our farmers now!
  • In 1755, the colonists and the British defeated two French forts near Nova Scotia.
  • The British met defeat when General Edward Braddock led British troops into a French and Indian ambush near Fort Duquesne. He died, but Washington was able to lead a retreat.
  • French General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm destroyed British forts on Lake Ontario and Lake George in 1765 and 1757. Indians raided frontier settlements in Pennsylvania and Virginia.
