Storyboard Text

  • Betty Parris
  • Traits: -Parris' daughter -Hangs around Abigail and the other girls -Her slave is Tituba
  • Reputation: Betty had a good reputation before she supposedly became a witch. Now that she has become bound to the bed and deals with the devil, her reputation as a young christian girl has become tainted. 
  • Accuser or Accused: Betty is one of the main suspects being accused of witchcraft. The state that she is in makes everyone believe that she has become a witch. However, at the the end of act I she accuses others of witchcraft to save her own life.
  • Susanna Walcott
  • Traits:  - Younger than Abigail -Nervous about her job -Delivers messages for Dr. Griggs
  • Reputation: Susanna does not have much of a reputation and us readers do not know much about her. 
  • Accuser or Accused: Susanna is the first sign that the girls could be more than just sick. She delievers the message that Dr. Griggs thinks that the girls have a sickness that comes from unnatural causes.
  • Mrs. Ann Putnam
  • Traits: -Forty-five years old -Death-ridden women -Wife of Thomas Putnam
  • Reputation: Mrs. Putman is a women that seems to be interested in witchcraft and death in general. She is the first person in the community to visit the Parris' to see Betty. This shows how interested that she is in Betty's situation. 
  • Accused or Accuser: Mrs. Putnam automatically accuses Betty of witchcraft as soon as she hears what has happened. In fact her first reaction is "surely a stroke of hell upon you". 
  • Thomas Putnam
  • Traits: -Nearly fifty years old  -Hard-working -Mrs. Putnam's husband
  • Reputation: He is known for his desire to be revengeful, to the point where he will wrongly accuse someone. He is still upset about his brother-in-law not becoming the minister in Salem. 
  • Accused or Accuser: Putnam's revengeful ways lead him to agree with his wife in the accusations against the girl. He thinks that his daughter has also been dealing with witchcraft. This all comes from his wife's theory that the Devil is out to steal their only daughter Ruth. 
  • Mary Warren
  • Traits: -Seventeen years old  -A naive young girl  -A follower and not a leader
  • Reputation: Mary Warren been a good christian girl up to this point but because she was seen with the girls doing witchcraft, her reputation has definitely been ruined.
  • Accused or Accuser: Mary Warren is being accused of witchcraft because she was with the other girls participating in witchcraft. She claims that she did not participate in the actual witchcraft, she was present when it took place and is in danger of being accused of taking part in witchcraft. 
  • Mercy Lewis
  • Traits: -The Putnam's servant  -Eighteen years old  -Very opinionated and bossy
  • Reputation: Mercy does not  have much of a reputation being a servant, yet she definitely puts her opinion out there. She hangs around the girls being accused of witchcraft, especially Abigail and Betty.  
  • Accused or Accuser:  Mercy is not accusing anyone or being accused.
