  • We can't lose our position as a world leader!
  • Fear = more money for curriculum
  • Date: 1960 Today's Agenda: 1: Irrelevent Curriculum
  • This curriculum took too long to create and now it does not apply to our current society.
  • Economics 101
  • The launch of Sputnik by the Soviet Union created fear among the U.S.
  • Date: 2017 Today's Agenda: Economic literacy
  • In the time it took to create and approve curriculum, many events happened and society's needs shifted and the curriculum became irrelevant in a sense.
  • Let's waste time and money creating another form of curriculum that won't last long!
  • Several economics education projects came out of the new social studies movement. One was the Developmental Economic Education Program (DEEP), which provided financial and consultant resources to schools if they committed to incorporating economics into their curriculum.
  • It's been a few months, we need a new buzzword to catch on!
  • While many projects did not stick during their timer period, some concepts and ideas resonate with today's social studies educators.
  • The Anthropology Curriculum Project (ACP) was designed to bring more social studies curriculum to the elementary level, even though it later expanded to secondary levels. Scholars behind these projects felt bringing anthropology to classrooms would create a better world.
  • Eventually the anthropology projects got scrapped, as most social studies projects do throughout our history, by the next new buzzword "citizenship education".
