  • You know guys, for severe anxiety and depression, pharmaceuticals are an option. I heard they are called psychotropic drugs.
  • Never heard that term before!
  • Basically, they are drugs that affect behaviour, mood, thoughts and perception.
  • Can you identify examples of psychotropic drugs for us?
  • Sure, Deann! For anxiety, there's Alprazolam (Xanax); for ADHD - amphetamine (Adderall); for depression, there's Duloxetine (Cymbalta). Oh! there's also Risperidone (Risperdal). That is used for bipolar disorder and even schizoprenia.
  • Psychotropic drugs are drugs that affect behaviour, mood, thoughts or perception (Ghoshal, 2019). It includes prescription drugs and other commonly misued drugs.
  • Psychotropics are a wide catetegorization of drugs that treat distinct conditions by adjusting the levels of brain chemicals, or neurotransmitters, like dopamine, gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), norepinephrine, and serotonin.
