Storyboard Text

  • I need a son and you are too old to have a child. I need an annulment.
  • The only person that can declare you two as not married is the Pope.
  • Go to Spain and get an answer from the Pope declaring if this marriage can be annulled or not.
  • I will try my best. The only problem is that the Pope is being held captive by Charles V.
  • I will try my best but I am not sure that I will return with an answer.
  • Go to Spain and try and get an answer from the Pope.
  • Henry only had daughters and Catherine of Aragon was no longer able to have children. Henry wanted to prevent a discussion about who would be the next King. Hence, he had to ask the Pope for an annulment so that he could remarry and try to have a son.
  • Henry sent Thomas Wolsey to Spain to obtain an answer from the Pope Clement VII, who was being held captive by the Spanish Emperor, Charles V, who was the father of Catherine of Aragon.
  • Thomas Wolsey never saw the Pope  and died of a severe illness on his way back to England. Henry sent a new emissary to see the Pope, Cardinal Campeggio. However, Henry's new messenger disappeared mysteriously and never met the Pope.
