Ulysses tries to pass through the Sirens' cave. Then the Sirens, bird-human-like creatures, sing as beautifully as they can to hypnotize them. Ulysses puts beeswax in his crew's ears to block the sound. He tells them to tie him up in a bag, then sail the boat until they are out of sight, then untie him.
When Ulysses and his crew come across the Strait of Scylla and Charybdis, they take Circe's advice and go around Scylla's whirlpool, which consumes the boat and most of the men, and go through Charybdis, and sacrifice 6 men. They say that some people freeze up in the face of danger, but that's not what happened to Ulysses.
15- Ino Veil
Take this. It will make you float.
Ulysses and his hungry crew came across land with cows that belonged to the sun god, Helios. They knew that and decided they were so hungry that they killed the cows to have a good last meal, expecting the gods to punish them. Guilt is a worry. When Helios told Zeus, king of the gods, that they killed his cows, he denied because Zeus owed Ulysses a favor. When he woke up, the air was filled with the smell of cooked meat and ashes.
Ulysses meets Calypso and she takes him in. She shows him what is happening in Ithaca with her magic fireplace, but also tries to persuade him that there is no use in going back. He's not convinced, and stays determined to go back. Then she sings a hypnotizing song which made him stay. Nearly seven years had passed, and Ulysses was worried that he would never see Penelope again. In all of her years, she has turned people into crows, jaguars, and other animals. Then, she would have turn Ulysses into a leopard if he had stayed.
I don't except.
Ulysses comes across Ino, with her magic veil. She offers it to him if he returns it back to sea, claiming that it will float back to her. Ulysses changes into the veil and suddenly the cold, brutal ocean feels like a warm, swimming pool. He starts swimming to the nearest land.
Ulysses washes up on land, exhausted, and returns the veil back into the ocean as Ino asked. and took a rest on the beach. The princess' maid, going out to do chores on the beach, discovers him on the beach and screams from surprise. She tells him to put some clothes on and go inside the castle. Soon he puts on a show for the king and wins a boat, which he uses to continue on his journey.
