  • The "Tariff of Abominations" was a protective tariff passed by the Congress of the United States on May 19, 1828, designed to protect industry in the northern United States.
  • 1832- Worcester vs. Georgia

  • Andrew Jackson and John Q. Adams were both running for president. Andrew Jackson's popularity let him win.
  • Congress passed a high tax on imported goods. Southern states were MAD. John C. Calhoun said that the tax was unconstitutional and that he would nullify it. Henry Clay proposed a compromise to lower taxes after 10 years. South Carolina agreed.
  • a case in which the United States Supreme Court chose the conviction of Samuel Worcester and held that the Georgia criminal statute that prohibited Native Americans from being present on Native American lands without a license from the state was unconstitutional.
