God Gives Moses a Mission
Moses is tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He comes to Horeb, the mountain of God.
Moses Questions God and Objects
"Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt?"
God appears to Moses in a flaming bush. The bush is on fire, but is not burning. God calls out to Moses from the bush, and Moses hides his face as he is afraid to look at God.
God Reassures Moses
"I will be with you"
God explains to Moses how he has seen his people in Egypt suffer, and how He wants Moses to go to Pharaoh and free the Israelites from slavery. He wants Moses to take the people and lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey.
God Gives Moses a Sign
Moses questions if God really wants him to be the one to go to Egypt, as he had fled from Egypt after an accident happened and a man died. Moses questions if he could really complete the mission God is asking him to go on.
God tells Moses that He will always be with him, and reassures him.
God tells Moses to pick up his staff, as it it the sign that God is with him, and the proof that it is God who has sent him to Egypt to free the Israelites.
