Offered and Ofglen go shopping for food. Offred recognizes a woman from the Red Centre who was called Janine and now is called Ofwarren. She is pregnant.
They finish their shopping and carry on walking where they encounter a group of Japanese tourists. They want to take a photograph of Offred and Ofglen but they don't allow it. The tourists ask them if they are happy, they say yes.
Offered then reflects on the times before Gilead, when she in a laundromat and women were free to wear what they liked and how they had freedom but weren't necessarily safe.
