  • Before the war, Korea was split between the communist North and democratic South.

  • 38th parallel.  DO NOT CROSS  YOU'LL BE SHOT!
  • Yeah, but troops are keeping us on "our sides" and I'm stuck under communist goverment.
  • We have direct orders that both countries are to integrate and become communist!
  • All of the sudden, Soviet troops stormed into South Korea to create a united Korea under communist rule. So, President Truman sent U.S troops to fight for S.Korea's back.
  • Not so fast! They should be a democracy!
  • During the war, UN troops got close to the Chinese border so 40,00 Chinese and N. Korean troops fought the UN back to the 38 parallel. It was a brawl between the USSR, UN, China and N. & S. Korea.
  • Communism
  • Democracy
  • For two whole years at the end of the war, there was simply a stalemate near the 38th parallel. In 1953, the sides agreed to end hostilities.
  • I don't like you, but we can't kill each other or destroy the world.
  • At the end, we were back to the beginning. However, this time there is a DMZ. But all the war, decimated Korea. Buildings were destroyed and people were killed.
  • I guess we're back to this huh?
  •  5.5 million Korean's were killed, including civilians and soldiers. 54,000 Americans were also killed.  As time went on, North Korea became more and more isolated and South Korea began flourishing.
