  • Mexico Wins Independence From Spain 
  • Empresario from Virginia who was Granted the Right to Start a Colony in Mexico
  • The Colony's Success Brings More Settlers from the US 
  • In 1821, Americans begin settling in Mexico's Northern border (Texas) but retain US customs
  • Mexico Closes Immigration to American Immigration
  • Many families started migrating to Mexican Texas in 1825 due to the Manifest Destiny and over 300 families were there.
  • Texians Clash with Santa Anna's Army
  • Soon Americans outnumber Tejanos 6-1 and the Mexican Government actions begin to upset American Settlers. The Mexican government started to make immigration laws such as Dominance of Roman Catholic Church, Mexican Citizenship, and Spanish language in order to stay in their territory.
  • The Battle of the Alamo
  • Texians started to pay taxes to Mexico and many of them began to wish to break away from Mexico. Mexico's President, Antonia Lopez de Santa Anna sent troops to end the revolt.
  • Sam Houston and Texian leaders declare Texas independent in 1836 by signing the Texas Declaration of Independence
  • Texians begin to retreat to an old mission in 1836 and for 12 days, 150 people held off an army of 6,000 people. 183 Texians were killed by Santa Anna's Army, virtually everyone there. "Rember the Alamo!" is a famous battle cry
