Hi! I'm the author of this comic and I'm sure you're wondering who this is.
Well this is Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley, or more commonly known as, Molly Pitcher.
I'm Mary's brother, Johann Martin!
We are their parents, Maria and John Georg.
That is William Hays. You can tell because he's still there!(a joke)
Mary got the nickname Molly Pitcher because Molly was a nickname for people called Mary and when handing out water, soldiers would say, "Molly - pitcher!"
Okay, finished half of my washing load and there aren't any injured soldiers who need my help.
Mary was born on October 13th, 1754 near Trenton, New Jersey to her parents Maria Margaretha and John Georg Ludwig. She also had an older brother, Johann Martin.
Mary had two husbands in her life. William Hays and John McCauley. William Hays died in 1786. She later married John McCauley, but he disappeared between 1807-1810, never to be seen again.
Take that, Red Coats!
William served as a soldier in the revolutionary war while Mary was a camp follower, a person who was responsible for washing blankets & clothes, they cared for the sick & dying and bringing water out to the soldiers.
Mary and William both served in the battle of Monmouth. During the battle, William collapsed during the battle. Mary took her husbands place on the battlefield and operated his cannon.
While Mary was operating the cannon, an enemy cannonball flew between her legs and ripped off the bottom of her skirt. She was unharmed. After the battle, Mary became known as "Sargent Molly".
