  • The cigarette represents lower class. It was a way for the greasers to pass time, and stay calm. It also made them feel older, and fit into their groups.
  • The church was a safe haven for Johnny and Pony boy, after they had killed Bob. It was a hideout, where they could reflect on their lives.
  • When the church burned, it allowed them to become heroes. It showed everyone who they really are.
