My father, Charles LaPage had to do my kindling work for me, now he chopped off his thumb and might not be able to be a voyageur for awhile, so I decided to sign into the voyageurs. I know that my father will be proud of me but I don't want to leave my family.
I never realized how really hard this was gonna be, leaving St. Annes, all I could think about is if that is gonna happen to me. My muscles are sore, and I have blisters everywhere on my hands. All the other voyageurs are doing fine, how do they do this? I keep thinking about my family, and Celeste, and how awkward I was to her before I left.
It was forbidden by the company to canoe through the rapids, so we had to portage, I knew it was supposed to be hard, but this is harder then I thought, why is it so heavy? When I got to the end I found out why, they tricked me, they filled my bag with lead shot to make it harder.
When we got to Superior, it finally started to get bad. My fingers were numb from the cold, I felt like the whole canoe was gonna tip over! "How about the island?" Beloit shouted. It took awhile but we decided to go to the Michipicoten island.
When we got to grand portage, I met the chief, he was wearing a lot of interesting clothes.. He wasn't wearing shoes, but, he was wearing two different colored socks. One day, Kennewah (the chiefs daughter) was picking berries, so i decided to help, i can not keep up with her. Sooner or later, we were finally off, I was gonna go home.
