Storyboard Text

  • Sailing to the Danes
  • I have "heard how Grendel fills nights with horror."
  • Battle with Grendel
  • Nowhere on Earth was there a warrior worthier to rule over men.
  • Grendel's Mother
  • I see you, "mighty water witch"!
  • Beowulf, along with a group of Geatish warriors, sails across the sea to the land of the Danes to fight the demon Grendel. King Hrothgar sent for Beowulf because a monster, Grendel, had been terrorizing Herot. Beowulf brought 14 soldiers from Sweden with him to Denmark.
  • Fighting Grendel's Mother
  • So fame comes to the men who mean to win it and care about nothing else!
  • Beowulf and his soldiers tricked Grendel into attacking Herot in the Mead Hall. Beowulf let one of his soldiers be eaten by Grendel, but then he attacked and killed Grendel by ripping his arm off. King Hrothgar was very pleased with Beowulf and rewarded him with gold and glory.
  • Fight with the Dragon
  • While Beowulf was sleeping after his victory, Grendel's mother, scorned by the death of her son, attacked Herot and stole her son's arm back. Beowulf and his men followed the monster's bloody footprints to her lair in a dark river. Beowulf decided to finish this on his own, so his men stay on ground while he swims for four hours until he finally arrives at the lair of the mother.
  • Beowulf's Final Wish
  • Beowulf used a magical sword to kill Grendel's mother. He then used the sword to cut off Grendel's head to bring it back to King Hrothgar as proof of his bravery. The people of Herot are so impressed with the bravery of Beowulf that they make him the king. For fifty years all is well with Beowulf and his people.
  • After a thief steals from a dragon in Herot, Beowulf is called upon again to defeat the dragon who is terrorizing the people of Denmark. Beowulf suspects that he will die in this fight, but he has never felt fear before, so he is up to the task. They go to the dragon's lair, and all but one warrior, Wiglac, desserts Beowulf. They end up defeating the dragon, but Beowulf is mortally wounded.
  • I sold my life for this treasure, and I sold it well.
  • Before Beowulf died, he requested that Wiglac take the treasure back to his people and lead them well. He wanted his tomb to be built by the waters edge and to look like a lighthouse. He also wanted the tomb to be called Beowulf's Tower.
