  • The Corrupt Bargain
  • Jackson as the People's President
  • Henry Clay convinced Congress to make John Quincy Adams the president in exchange for him to become the secretary of state.
  • Spoils System
  • I pick you because your my friend.
  • Yay!
  • Jackson won the election by a landslide using a tactic called mud sling which is talking bad about his opponent. He also had a party that trashed the white house. 
  • Jackson's "Kitchen Cabinet"
  • What are we supposed to do again?
  • I don't know 
  • Jackson was known as the "People's President" because he spread democracy to the common people and the government would not be controlled by the wealthy elite.
  • The Nullification Crisis of 1828-1833
  • Pay the tariff or I will use military force.
  • No we will secede from the union.
  • After taking office Jackson fired most of the federal employees and replaced them with his friends and supporters. This is now known as the spoils system.
  • Jackson's kitchen cabinet was a result of the spoils system because his whole cabinet didn't know what they were doing and only supported him. 
  • When a high tariff was added to imported goods South Carolina was not happy and threatened to secede from the union. Jackson threatened to use military force to enforce the law. It was settled with a lowered tariff.
