One regular Tuesday afternoon I received an email from my dear friend Lily. If was an invitation to her bat mitzvah
I had never heard of a bat mitzvah let alone been to one. I assumed it was just some religious gathering, like a baptism.
To: Nigist Abu You are invited to Lily's Bat Mitzvah. It will be held at a synagogue in the morning then at a party venue in the afternoon/ nighttime. From: Lily
When I got to the synagogue it reminded me of the church I went to except for the fact that there was a Jewish star on the front instead of a cross
I wonder what this bat mitzvah thing will be like...
what is the triangle thing on the church?
The ceremony began. The prayers were in Hebrew and English, "Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha`olam" which translates to "Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe..." is the only one I remember.
I wonder what language this is and what they're saying
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha`olam...
The after party was a blast. There was amazing food and we played a bunch of games. My favorite part was when they did the traditional chair lift. It represents people getting closer to a spiritual place.
Wow, that looks so fun! They don't do that at baptisms.
I went home that night and told my parents about all the new things I learned about Judaism.
