  • In 1599, The East India Company was founded in England and later on began to build trading warehouses in India
  • During this period, India was not a united country. Each small state had its own individual ruler. The East India Company  occasionally asked to trade in the Indian states but other times wouldn't. 
  • Around this time, the french managed their own individual East India Company. This created rivarly between them and the British . By 1700, it changed into a full on war and the armies were pulled into conflict.  
  • Eventually, the British made an agreement that they would assist any Indian Ruler in trade and would defeat any ruler who blocked their trade.
