- This is Derrek Lathon, he is currently a student-athlete at MC. He grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. He has a family of 4. He has had dreams of being a professional athlete since he can remember.
- Derreks sister is a D1 volleyball recruit
- Derrek's parents made sure he had everything he ever wanted while he was growing up

- Derrek attended University Lab School in Baton Rouge, one of the most prestigious schools in Louisiana. He attended University Lab for it's athletic accolades and it's great history in academics.

- Derrek was taught great lessons at University, as well as recieving the highest level of education in the state
- These football setbacks taught Derrek multiple life lessons that has shaped him into the person he is today.
- Derrek grew up wanting to be a Professional Football Player, specifically a running back just like his idol, Bo Jackson. Due to injuries throughout his football career, he was forced to give it up and find a new hobby and dream. It turned out to be Baseball, and this change has opened so many doors for Derrek
- Baseball has gotten Derrek to where he is today, as he is a Baseball player for Mississippi College here in Clinton,MS.
- I want to be the first African American MLB catcher since the start of the 2005 season
- Derrek has played baseball his entire life, but it seemed to always be in the rearview mirror behind football, but once injuries got him away from football, he found his true love for baseball
- Derrek signed with Mississippi College after his Junior Year of Highschool. He had multiple other offers but loved what MC had to offer.
- Derrek is currently in his Sophomore, or 2nd year of college at MC. He has made many lifelong friends and he has learned from many past events that have all gotten him prepared for the up and down lifestyle of being a college athlete. His Parents, His football injuries, and his new found goals of being an MLB baseball player is what keeps Derrek pushing forward. Nothing will mess stop him from achieving this goals.
