A woman named Mrs. Schachter sees a fire the starts to annoy people in the truck and leaves Elie wondering what's wrong with her. We know this when the woman exclaimed, "Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire" (Wiesel 24).
Elie and his father had passed the selection and had been given a new name. We know this when Elie explained, "The three prisoners, needles in hand, tattooed numbers on our left arms. I became A-7713" (Wiesel 42).
German soldiers arrive in Sighet and order the Jews to hand over any valuables. We know this when German soldiers declared, "A Jew was henceforth forbidden to own gold, jewelry, or any valuables" (Wiesel 10).
TURN IN VALUABLES!
Elie and his father had arrived at the camp Birkenau. We know this when Elie described, "In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau" (Wiesel 28).
Elie and his father has arrived in Auschwitz and are put into work and the terror of the camp. We know this when The Director explained, "You are in Auschwitz. It is a concentration camp. You must work. If you don't you will go straight to the chimney. Work or crematorium" (Wiesel 39).
