In Washington Irving's story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a man named Ichabod Crane is madly in love with a rich landowner's daughter Katrina, but Katrina also has another suitor whose name is Brom Bones.
Ichabod was Sleepy Hollow's very thin and tall schoolmaster. Despite the fact that he is very thin, Ichabod had a big appetite. One day Ichabod just a letter inviting him to the Van Tassel house for a party. Ichabod was so excited that he gave the children the rest of the day off.
Ichabod dressed his best for the party hoping to catch the eye of Katrina. He rode on a horse named Gunpowder that he had borrowed from Farmer Brown. After a short ride he arrived at the Van Tassel farmhouse. Ichabod fixed his suit and knocked on the doors to be greeted by Mr. Van Tassel.
At the party everyone were telling scary ghost stories that made Ichabod's teeth chatter as each story was told, but the story of the headless horseman was the story that made him shake from head to toe for he believed every single word.
After the party ended Ichabod was heading back home still traumatized by the story of the headless horseman. Then all of sudden the headless horseman popped out of nowhere and started chasing Ichabod. Ichabod screamed in fright and terror as he was chased. He rode towards the bridge and just when he thought he had lost the creature he looked back and saw it even closer and passed out due the head of the horseman being thrown at his own.
The next day Ichabod's hat and other belongings were near the bridge along with a smashed pumpkin were discovered by some townsfolks. From that day on some people believed that Ichabod was dead and some people still thought he was alive. In Sleepy Hollow you can never expect whats going to happen next.
