My heart was thudding, soon I would be up there and everyone would be watching!
Now Jayanti Gupta, a 6th grader at Baker Middle School, will be speaking about how Dr. Martin Luther King has impacted her life.
I quickly scan the room and find my parents sitting in the middle, where we had been given reserved seats. They smile at me and I suddenly feel more confident
Even before I realize it, I have started my speech and I can see everyone attentively watching me and soon I feel more confident, with every word I speak I can feel myself getting stronger.
Dr. Martin Luther King is a great role model for all of us. He has inspired many people to be great leaders...
My speech ends about as abruptly as it started. I finish my last word and suddenly I hear a thunderous applause, and realize how bright the lights are. I can't see anyone in the audience, but I can feel
I have learned from Dr. King to always do what's right and fight for it no matter how hard and faraway, it may seem because if you stay persistent, and continue working towards your goal, you will reach it someday, I promise you!
As I listen to the applause I am once again reminded of why I enjoy public speaking so much. I can hear my blood rushing and my eart thudding against my chest, but I don't feel scared, I feel proud and happy
After the applause dies down I see Dr. Machesky, the superintendent, walking up to shake my hand and introduce the next speaker. He's holding a certificae of recognition in a fancy blue colored folder, and seeing that suddenly jolts me back to reality, and I suddenly smile nervously again.
