This is Juan entering to try to warn Kino of the dangers involved in going to the capital, but Kino is set on selling his pearl to secure a better future for his son. Unable to convince Kino of his warning, Juan Tomás returns home.
Juan Tomás, who is Kino’s older brother. Very loyal to his family, he supports Kino in all of his decisions but cautions him of the dangers involved in having such a rare and valuable pearl. He shows sympathy towards Kino and Juana.
This is Apolinia after agreeing to help kino and his wife, while the pearl is trying to be sold. They need protection and help, and Apolina offers that to them.
Apolonia who is Juan Tomás’s wife, and is also the mother of four children. Sam as her husband, she is very sympathetic to Kino and Juana’s during this time, she agrees to help in any way she can.
This is the Doctor after finding out that Kino has found a pearl. He is eager to get his hand on it and claim the pearl as his. He attempts to do everything he can, in hopes to obtain the pearl and never end up treating Coyotito.
The doctor is an important character who endlessly dreams of an extravagant European lifestyle. The doctor initially refuses to treat Coyotito but changes his mind after learning that Kino has found a rare pearl. He represents the arrogance, greed, and selfishness of the story.
