In the climax of the short story “Three Skeleton Key” written by George G. Toudouze, the three lighthouse keepers are attacked by thousands of rats, and need to find a way to survive. Once the rats broke in the three men had to get to a safe place, so they went up to the top of the lighthouse. luckily the top of the lighthouse had a trapdoor, so when they got to the top they closed the door, and killed all of the rats that got in. The next day a boat arrived, and saw that the light was not lit in the lighthouse, so they started to leave when one of the lighthouse keepers turned on the light, and using a plank sent dots, and dashes telling their story. Once the boat got the message a guy waved his arms telling help is on the way. A boat came that was pulling a small barge, and that drew the rats away from the lighthouse, when the rats got onto the barge the people on the ship drenched it with gasoline, and shot an incendiary shot setting the barge on fire. All the rats that got away got eaten by the sharks.
