  • The Great Game was a war from 1813 to 1907 between the English and the Russians over who would control India. Eventually, the British won.

  • The Crimean War was fought between the Russians and the Ottomans from 1853 to 1856 over who would control the Crimea, a peninsula valuable for it's location. The Ottomans and their allies won.

  • The Sepoy Mutiny was the mutiny of Indian soldiers working for the British that lasted from 1857 to 1858. It was caused by the Indians believing the British were trying to force convert them and escalated from there.

  • The Suez Canal was built in 1869 by Muhammed Ali. It connected the Red Sea to the Mediterranean and helped modernize India

  • The Berlin Conference was a conference between 14 nations, mostly European, over the division of Africa. However, not a single African nation was included.

  • In 1907, Britain. Asia, and Persia competed to control the kingdom of Persia. Persia was so valuable because of it's tobacco fields and natural resources.  Eventually, Britain and Russia took control of the country
