As a young boy, Callot dreamed was to go to Rome to become an artist
So as a teenager, Callot escaped from Nancy, and set sail to Rome with a band of gypses
In Rome, he apprenticed under Philippe Thomassin, where he learned the technique of etching
In 1614, Callot moved to Florence and began to printmaking depictions of the festivals that went on in Florence for the Medici Court under Duke Cosimo II.
In 1621, He moved back to Nancy, and in 1623 he got admitted into the court of Duke Henri II
In 1633, Callot released The Miseries Of War, which depicted many horrible scenes from the Thirty Year War
