Martin Luther preached that all of the indulgences were phony. You can't buy your way into heaven, or buy your way out of sins that you committed.
The leaders of the Catholic Church at the time, didn't like that. So they threatened to burn Martin Luther at the stake. So he made a quick escape.
He escaped to his friend's castle. Away from harm for now. He made a list of things that were wrong with the church. He posted this on the c church bulletin.
For a while, John Calvin, agreed with Martin Luther. Overtime, he found things he disagreed with in Lutheranism.
He was persecuted in France so he commuted to Basel, Switzerland. He was welcomed by a band of scholars.
When He was 28 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland. He stayed there the rest of his life. He also established Calvinism.
