  • Nope
  • Hey Rachel, I know we were supposed to play basketball today, but I am just too tired. i don't feel like I have the strength in me to even kick the ball
  • Let me tell you about it.
  • That's okay, Abby. I think I know what might make you feel better. Have you ever heard of gene doping?
  • That's cool, but how does that help me?
  • Gene doping involves inserting DNA, or gene carriers, into the body for the purpose of increasing athletic performance.
  • Since you're a basketball player, one gene that couldenhance your athletic performance is the EPO gene. EPO targets the blood system and is a protein coding gene produced in our kidneys.
  • That sounds kind of risky, Rachel. Isn't it bad for my health?
  • It can be, but not always. Some of the health risks that can be caused by the EPO gene include severe immune responses, increased blood viscosity, and difficulty for blood to flow through the body.
  • That sounds awesome!
  • But remember, EPO has several benefits that can boost your energy and your basketball skills. This gene works to produce more red blood cells in the body, increases blood oxygenation, and increases your endurance, too.
  • Now that you know about the EPO gene, you'll start to feel more energized and motivated to play!
  • Woohoo!
