  • In May, 1587, Sir Walter Raleigh sends a group of 150 settlers of men, women, and children on Roanoke Island.
  • The settlers stayed there for three years before the rest of the English came back.
  • When the English came back, they found a deserted area with only 1 written clue; 'Croatoan'
  • Croatoan
  • What happened to the settlers?
  • Since the area where they lived suffered a major drought, they moved to live with other Native Americans for survival.
  • This is why some of the Native people had blue eyes and had some words in their vocabulary that sounded like English.
