- ‘Do youfeel that you have more freedom now than you had in thosedays? Are you treated more like a human being?'
- "In the olddays, the rich people, the people at the top——"
- Junk shop
- Winston was walking and quickly recognized where he was, he was by the junk shop and was about to go to the pub when he saw an old man. This scene is important because it is right before he has a conversation with the old man in the pub.
- "This basically has a lot of old furniture that I want to sell."
- "Wow there is no telescreen?!"
- "It can be quite easy to rent out this room."
- Winston bought a beer for the old man and asked him questions. This is important because Winston is trying to question the old man to get information about conditions of early part of the century. He never got any real answers.
- Winston ends up going to the junk shop, the 60 year old owner recognizes him. He looks around and finds a bent glass and buys it. This scene is important because after this he goes to another part of the shop...
- The shop owner shows him the upstairs part of the shop and Winston like the fact that he can possibly live/rent out the room, he finds out that there is no telescreen.
