  • Birth and Family
  • Childhood to the Late Teens
  • Defection to the Soviet Union
  • Lee Harvey Oswald was born on October 18th, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born to Robert Edward Lee Oswald, who died from a heart attack two months prior, and Marguerite Frances Claverie. Harvey Lee Oswald also had an elder brother, Robert Alan Oswald Jr..
  • Socialism and Life In The Soviet Union
  • Throughout his childhood, Lee Harvey Oswald moved around and attended many different schools all across the U.S.. Growing up, Oswald idolized his brother Robert. Around his Sophomore year, he dropped out, went to work for around ten months, moved again, went back in to high school, and dropped out again. Oswald never got his diploma. Around this time, right after his 17th birthday, Oswald was accepted into the U.S. Marines, but was eventually discharged.
  • November 22nd, 1963
  • Oswald had the idea of defection to the Soviet Union planned extremely far in advance. Before he would go, he taught himself Russian, and saved up money for travel. The entire journey from a boat from the U.S. to Minsk, Belarus is extremely long and convoluted. After arrival, he went to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow where he wanted to renounce his U.S. citizenship. Later on, he got a job working at a factory and was provided with luxuries compared to the average soviet-citizen.
  • The End of the Line
  • Later on, Oswald got a job working as an operator in a factory, and was provided with luxuries compared to what the average soviet-citizen had available. Oswald had a fully furnished apartment controlled by the Soviet Government. Oswald also got a bump to his salary, but he found nothing to really spend it on. During the last year-and-a-half of his stay in Minsk, he met his wife-to-be, Marina Prusakova. Oswald and Marina married six weeks after initially meeting, and had a daughter. Shortly after, Oswald and his family moved to Dallas, Texas.
  • On the day of President Kennedy's assassination, Oswald had been preparing the morning just before President Kennedy's motorcade went through Dealey Plaza. At about 12:30 at noon, Oswald fired three shots at Kennedy's motorcade from the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository. The first had missed entirely, the second struck Kennedy in the neck and continued to go through Governor Connally's shoulder, wrist, then knee in that order. The third shot hit President Kennedy in the head, leaving him braindead and was driven to the Parkland Memorial Hospital.
  • About one hour after Oswald assassinated Kennedy, Oswald was apprehended and arrested at Texas Theatre. Oswald was taken to the Dallas Police Headquarters and was questioned for the next two days. While being transported to trial for the assassination of President Kennedy through the Headquarters basement, nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot Oswald in the abdomen. The entire incident was recorded on live television. Oswald was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, the same hospital where Kennedy was pronounced dead two days prior. Oswald was pronounced dead at 1:07 pm.
